As a student of twentieth century critical theory, I really appreciate how the Brown curriculum integrates critique into classes not explicitly about theory.

I’m devoting most of my extracurricular time to starting The Critical Theory Project, which is an attempt to forge a community of Brown undergrads interested in critical theory and progressive politics. My friends and I founded the group in the spring of 2008 with support from several Brown departments.

Before starting The Critical Theory Project, I worked as a senior staff writer for the Brown Daily Herald

Another major project is the proposal for my independent concentration in Modern Critical Philosophy. Hopefully, my concentration will include the work I’ve done in Modern Cultures and Media, Philosophy, Africana Studies, and Gender Studies.

Last summer, I volunteered in the Emergency Department at New York Hospital in Manhattan as part of an internship program. Beyond the excitement of spending time in an urban level one trauma center, the experience was valuable because I learned that the culture of medicine does not appeal to me (I previously thought I wanted to be a neurosurgeon).

While trying to avoid impulsively throwing myself into a new career track, I’m starting to think about pursuing constitutional law. This summer, I’m planning to intern at the Queens County District Attorney’s office in the Special Victims Bureau. I expect this experience will test my strong (but currently theoretical) devotion to defendants’ rights.

Philosophy, Physics, and law (maybe?)
